I chose this picture because I love how brave this man is, literally standing up for his country. June 5, 1989, was the day after the Tiananmen Square Massacre, which was where Chinese troops attacked pro-democracy boycotters who were camped on the plaza. On the fifth, a man was walking across the street with shopping bags in his hands when four tanks came down the street. Instead of moving, the man stood his ground in protest against them. I chose this picture because Muhammad Ali was an awesome person, and this picture shows that very well. What caught my eye was the bright red boxing gloves. In Lewiston, Maine, on May 25, 1965,  Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston were in the ring. Muhammad had stolen the title from Sonny Liston  the previous  year, and basically did it again. In the first two minutes he had knocked Liston out. Photographer- Neil Leifer 1942-present Birth place: New York City, New York School attended: N/A

I chose this picture because I have always really liked how it shows how happy everyone is that WWII ended. It's also just very spontaneous, which I like. On August 14, 1945, World War Two had just ended and America was filled with hope once again. Once all of the soldiers who had survived made it back, everyone went crazy, and there were many spouses who had been waiting for what seems like forever for their significant other to come home. I chose this image because it means a lot to me. The reason for this being that my grandfather was is in the service, and this picture meant a lot to him.  On February 19, 1945, it was the start of a month long war between 6,800 Americans and 21,000 Japanese to try and win the territory of Iwo Jima. On the fifth day of the battle, the Marines captured Mount-Suribachi and so the Americans were quick to raise a huge flag to inspire them. I chose this picture because it shows the suffering families had to go through during the Depression. I admire the mother's strength, staying calm for her children. The mother in the photo, Frances Owens Thompson, is in desperate need of food for her children and her for they are out of money. She had to sell the tires from her car to get money to feed her children, but before that, they ate the birds that her children killed and brought back. Photographer- Dorothea Lange 1895-1965 Birth place: Hoboken, NJ School attended: Columbia University

Fashion Photography

1) Changes made to her face on computer: -made lips bigger -made neck longer -made eyes larger -made eyebrows higher -made face slimmer 2) Changes made to her body on computer: -raised shoulder -made body (stomach, legs, butt, etc.) slimmer -made legs longer -made neck longer -made her look tan 3) Changes made to model: -cut out the shape of a slim women in a pizza -make a lot of sauce go away and made cheese a lighter shade -made pepperonis into a two-piece swimsuit -made skin a much darker skin color and smoothed out -added a face and hair 4. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like these in a photo? Why or why not? No, it is not acceptable period to change a person's body to make it look "perfect". It's unethical because people should be comfortable enough in their own skin so that they don't want to have their body altered. It also sends the wrong message to people, making them think they need to look like that

Portraits and Self Portraits Intro

Image
Tips: 1. Break the Rules of Composition 2. Obscure Part of your Subject 3. Frame Your Subject Environmental Portrait: What I like about this photo is how you can see that he is comfortable in his environment, testing out a guitar that he seemed to have made.  I love how the photographer captured the woman in action in her environment, and you can tell it's not candid because she's in the process of making wool. Photography Self Portrait: I really love this picture because it shows the girl's personality, her tongue sticking out and her eyes squinted, it shows that she is goofy. I like how this picture makes it seem like she's in her own world. Casual Portrait: This photo does a great job of making a man look professional, while still making it look like he is enjoying himself and being carefree.  You can tell that this photo is very posed, but they did a good job making her seem casual (clothes-wise).
