I chose this image because it means a lot to me. The reason for this being that my grandfather was is in the service, and this picture meant a lot to him. 

On February 19, 1945, it was the start of a month long war between 6,800 Americans and 21,000 Japanese to try and win the territory of Iwo Jima. On the fifth day of the battle, the Marines captured Mount-Suribachi and so the Americans were quick to raise a huge flag to inspire them.
