Best of 2017

Best Song
Sign Of The Times-Harry Styles
I chose Sign of the Times by Harry Styles for best song because it was such a big hit. The song was his solo debut, and an amazing one at that. It's the best song because it's nothing like anything else in the charts today. It is a throwback to British 90's Rock, like music from Bowie and Prince. His vocals are breath-taking and the fact that it is a one of a kind, it shook the music industry. It was automatically number one on any music chart you could think of. Yes, part of this is because of his huge fanbase, but many people who aren't a fan have admitted that it was a strong song. Many fellow musicians congratulate Styles like his band mates, Chris Martin (Coldplay) and even the wonderful Stevie Nicks. Therefore, it is the best song of 2017.

Best Movie
Dunkirk-Christopher Nolan
I chose Dunkirk, a film by Christopher Nolan, for the best movie of the year because it was incredibly moving. Nolan did an amazing job capturing the true story of the battle at Dunkirk between Belgium, Britain, and France against Germany during World War II. The cinematography was outstanding, on land, in the water, and in the air. The movie was shot almost entirely with an IMAX camera except for close shots, and they were even hooked into the wing of the fighter planes. None of the movie was done using CGI, and the effects and everything else still looked amazing. There was close to no speaking parts yet it still told the story with ease. The actors were fantastic choices; Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh. Not only were award winning/nominated actors in the movie, but there were also new-comers to film; Fionn Whitehead, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Harry Styles. Harry did an amazing job especially with it being his film debut, and that's not me being biased. You know he's a good actor  because all of the old guys who went to go see it said he was amazing without knowing who he was. Overall, it was definitely the best movie of the year.

Most Important News Story
Women's March On Washington
I believe that The Women's March On Washington was the most important news story of the year. Many American citizens followed up the inauguration of President Donald Trump with many rallies and protests against Trump and what he has stated. Both men and women know that what he is saying is wrong and degrading towards women. Because of all of these thoughts, women and men all around America gathered to march in Washington to protest many issues. The primary issue was women's rights, but other issues included; reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, gender equality, racial equality, workers' rights, etc. This march in Washington led to hundreds of other marches related to these issues all around the world.

Most Important Person
Patty Jenkins
This picture is of Patty Jenkins attending the AFI Lifetime Acheivement Awawrd gala June 8, 2017 in Hollywood, California. She is the most important person this year because she accomplished what no other woman has. She is the first woman to direct a movie that made over $100 million on its opening weekend. She directed the DC movie Wonder Woman, which broke a bunch of box-office records this year alone. Because of this success with her movie, she agreed to direct the second installment of the Wonder Woman. She is the most important person because she is showing that women can accomplish anything.

Biggest Sports Person
JJ Watt-Texans Football
In my opinion, JJ Watt is by far, the biggest sports person of 2017. He is the defensive end for the football team, the Houston Texans. He has joined the Pro Football Hall of Famer, Reggie White as the only other player to get at least 15 sacks in the first three of their five first seasons. He has accomplished 76 sacks in his career. He has broken many other world records, but that is nothing compared to his huge heart. Even though he's this massive guy, he is really just a big teddy bear. He is constantly raising money for charity, meeting kids, and standing up for others. For example, in 2017 he raised over $37 million for the victoms in Hurricane Harvey! Overall, he is the best sports person of 2017.
